Position Overview

We seek a skilled and motivated Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and coordination of mechanical systems for various commercial and institutional projects. This role will focus on designing and integrating HVAC and plumbing systems, supporting preconstruction efforts and field operations through detailed, constructible engineering. You will work in a collaborative environment alongside project managers, estimators, BIM modelers, and field personnel, playing a key role in bringing complex projects from concept to reality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead HVAC and plumbing system design for commercial and institutional projects from schematic through construction phases.
  • Develop detailed mechanical design drawings, diagrams, and specifications.
  • Perform system calculations (load analysis, pipe/duct sizing, equipment selection).
  • Coordinate with BIM/VDC teams for 3D model development and clash resolution.
  • Review project documentation (RFIs, submittals, shop drawings) and support field execution.
  • Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and field supervisors to ensure design intent aligns with budget and schedule.
  • Interface with clients, architects, consultants, and subcontractors.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and energy regulations (Title 24, ASHRAE, LEED).
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical knowledge sharing across teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of mechanical design experience in the commercial construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems (HVAC, hydronic, air-side, and plumbing).
  • Proficiency in design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and mechanical calculation software (e.g., Trane Trace, HAP).
  • Familiarity with California building codes, Title 24, and local permitting requirements.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • PE license (preferred but not required).

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary with bonus opportunities.
  • Comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid time off).
  • Career growth opportunities and continuing education support.
  • Collaborative team environment with a strong focus on technical excellence.
  • The opportunity to work on some of the region's most advanced and high-profile construction projects.

Equal Opportunity Employer
