Assistant Project Manager / Project Engineer - Bridge Construction & Maintenance
Full-Time, Direct Hire, Permanent Placement, W2 (NOT contract or temp)
Location: Office in Jacksonville, FL / Fernandina Beach, FL area
Projects: Regional - Northeast & Central Florida, Georgia, Carolinas
Occasional travel to jobsites as needed
We’re looking for a sharp, driven Assistant Project Manager (Project Engineer) to support the planning, coordination, and execution of Bridge Construction & Maintenance projects. This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside a highly collaborative team of experienced construction professionals and build a long-term career in project management.
What You’ll Do
As an integral part of the project management team, you’ll support the successful delivery of complex construction projects from start-up to closeout. Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting project start-up: setup, document control, and initial coordination
- Assisting with scheduling, budgeting, subcontractor coordination, and permitting
- Managing cost control processes, subcontract administration, and pay applications
- Performing material take-offs, tracking inventory, and facilitating procurement
- Reviewing submittals and assisting with change orders and contract adjustments
- Providing day-to-day support for field staff including superintendents and field engineers
- Helping to manage project closeout activities, documentation, and client turnover
What You Bring
We’re looking for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, communicates clearly, and enjoys solving problems on the fly. Key qualifications include:
- 2+ years of experience in the civil construction industry (bridge, heavy highway, marine/coastal, and/or structural concrete/steel preferred)
- Working knowledge of construction management processes and field operations
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills with great attention to detail
- Solid communication skills — written, verbal, and interpersonal
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and project management software
- Familiarity with file management systems and document control best practices
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional project teams
Education
- Preferred : Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Building Construction, or a related field
