Position Summary

Roosevelt University seeks a Graduate Academic Advisor to work closely with our domestic and international students in masters-level programs. The graduate academic advisor will provide accurate and current curricular information on graduate programs; assists in short-term and long-term academic program planning; refers students to other support services / units on campus; helps with course selection, registration and career plans; assists in recruitment and retention efforts which progresses our students toward graduation. This position reports to the Director of Graduate and Adult Continuing Education Advising.


This is a full-time, at-will, non-exempt administrative position.


Some evening and weekend hours will be required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Two (2) plus years of experience in a college or education environment working within academic advising, student services, enrollment management or student affairs.
  • Ability to understand, communicate, and effectively interact with people across cultures, ranges of ability, genders, ethnicities, and races.
  • Proven ability to perform assigned administrative duties focused on supporting our advising, recruitment, and retention efforts.
  • Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Embrace collaboration and a commitment to ensuring the team success in all tasks and projects.
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to service excellence by embodying Roosevelt’s core values, mission, and vision in every aspect of the role working with students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Ability to use computerized student information systems and personal computing software.
  • A positive and professional demeanor.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred in Psychology, Counseling, Academic Advising, Education or Higher Education Administration.
  • Professional experience working as an academic or international student advisor.
  • Familiarity with Ellucian/Banner preferred.

Office equipment (desktop computer, office copier/ multifunction device and phone).



Working Conditions

Normal climate-controlled office environment is provided. Job is largely sedentary, but there is a need to move about the office and buildings frequently. Occasional bending, stooping, lifting, pushing and/or pulling is required (typically less than 10 pounds of weight or pressure). Regular use of desktop computer is required, calling for frequent hand/wrist movement and repetition. Moderate level of stress. Occasional travel within the local or regional setting may be required.
